This past Tuesday we were thrilled to host our counterparts from across the Bay, the Berkeley Energy and Resources Collaborative, on campus for an energetic, action-packed day. We started off by promoting the SEC at the Sustainability Fair, then discussed new ideas in energy with BERC and others at Stanford’s Connecting the Dots Symposium, and finally ended the day on a high with a tour of the Central Energy Facility and a mixer at the treehouse with officers from BERC. We were delighted to hear that BERC enjoyed their time on campus!
Wojciech Osowiecki, one of the BERC members that visited, had this to say:
“This month, the Stanford Energy Club (SEC) invited us to the first official BERC-SEC Mixer on Stanford’s Campus. The date coincided with Stanford’s Connecting the Dots Symposium, and thus gave BERC members a great opportunity to learn not only about the SEC’s future plans but also about the broad variety of sustainability initiatives already taking place. The Symposium stressed the importance of academic solutions for real-world problems, a mission that BERC and SEC strongly embrace.
The event ended with a fantastic tour of the brand-new Central Energy Facility, a combined heat and power plant that sustains entire Stanford’s campus. The Facility is tremendous not only in its scale but also in the diversity of applied innovations and environment-friendly solutions. And of course, the day wouldn’t be complete without the social hangout following the tour with our SEC friends. Through many good conversations, we’ve identified plenty of opportunities to collaborate and exchange experiences on how to bring students passionate about energy together. We hope to see all you SECers at Berkeley soon!”
Like Wojciech, we hope to see ourselves at Berkeley soon too – and we look forward to working with BERC on many projects and events soon!
